Business is an exciting and relevant subject which enables students to better understand the world around them. At Bishop Ramsey we offer GCSE Business, GCE Business and GCE Economics.
PLEASE NOTE THAT BUSINESS WILL NOT BE OFFERED AS AN OPTION AT KEY STAGE 4 FROM SEPTEMBER 2023 ONWARDS
Key Stage 4
At KS4, students study GCSE Business. The exam board is currently Edexcel. The course is two years in duration and is assessed with two examinations at the end of Year 11 which are both 90 minutes long. Students study topics including spotting business opportunities, marketing, operations management which the organisation and provision of product, effective financial management, effective people management and the wider world affecting business. GCSE Business is an exciting, relevant and also tough and rigorous course and is useful for many different career paths. When considering whether to choose this as an option, students should be mindful that it is suitable for both boys and girls and it will be a new subject and as such have a steep learning curve and unless this is seen as a challenge a more familiar subject should be selected.
Key Stage 5
GCE A-level Business is offered.
A-level Business is a two year course and students complete three exams, each which are two hours long. The themes covered centre around marketing and people, managing business activities, business decisions and strategy and Global business. The students study businesses from start-up, through the growth stage to plc’s and MNC’s. The cohort averages 22 students per year and usually consists of a mix of both genders and from internal and external candidates. It is not a requirement to have studied Business before and whilst it would be an advantage the past has proved that many capable students who have not, still go on to achieve high grades. A significant number of students go on to choose Business related university courses. Additionally a high relative number go on to undertake a modern apprenticeship often in Accounting or Marketing.
The exam board is Edexcel.
